Something New (for Becky)
The demanding public desire another poem:
here is a first draft, but something to read nonetheless. Enjoy!
At the Lake
Socks and flip-flops wet with rain.
Take them off, throw them in, and run.
Run away with me.
Kisses stain hearts, and I’m on my tiptoes
to hear you whisper in my ear,
Again. I’m going to do that again.
My lips, unconcerned, the taste of your kiss;
unscripted conversation...

Listerine
As promised to Andy Spragg… here’s a new poem I wrote for a friend for his Birthday- it’s a first draft still so commentary and edits welcomed!
Listerine
I.
A painting streaked by fingers, licked lips: Can I have you?
The leftover paint is kept in the fridge
near the tomatoes. You always blushed
like that when I’d walk into the living room naked.
The neighbors may see!
Lucky...

Something different: a review of a hair salon I just went to in Norwich. Pics to follow of my lovely new do :-)
I am petrified to get my hair cut, always have been. Until I worked (as a receptionist) in a hair salon, my hair was very long, one length, and stick straight. Then, all hell broke loose and it was chopped off. But working in a hair salon is one thing, finding a...

Well! Summer is on it’s way! The girls have stopped wearing, well, clothing in general, and the boys are all out throwing frisbees and sucking in stomachs, and it’s still too cold for me to take off my scarf… I will never be a true British girl, methinks, a southerner at heart! The gigs this week with Martin Newell went well. He’s a cool guy, that Martin. Everyone...

One month later...
Oh jeez, it’s been awhile. Things have gotten quite the bit hectic in the world of literary success. I kid. In all honesty, though, you know you’ve made it as a poet when your poems (“Davis” and “Green Slippers”) are not only the answers to a college level human sexuality course exam question, but part of the question requires a critique. How cool is...

In Like a Lion
You know how random things make you think of people? For example, the word ‘spoon’ makes me think of the guy who sold me my T-Mobile SIM (don’t ask), and it makes me giggle every time. Or hearing the Zombies “Time of the Season” reminds me that Davis still hasn’t given me the DMB CD… well, this one is for you, D…

Importance Level Zero
As I hate when people send me emails with a high importance level that are not really important, I thought I would title the post as such today- not important, just another poem to read at leisure. It’s not going anywhere so don’t stress if you don’t get to it yet and don’t feel bad if you’re not going to read it anyway. Importance level zero. It’ll be in the...
Fashionable
Been reading loads about fashion in research for my PhD (it’s a hard life, I know)…. so thought I’d post up this poem today for enjoyment :-)
Fitting into a Gucci Dress
Bulges sucked in silk squeezed from earthworms,
her legs trip, tip her skirt like a cow in the dark.
Night asphyxiates her tangled arms, scattering
each pearl like hailstones on pavement,
knocking over buckets...
I'm baackkk
Well, after months of starting my PhD (in Philosophy, yes), and months of not gigging (two to be exact), this year is opening with a roar… And due to that, I have promised myself to post a poem a day (OK, week) up on the good ol’ blog I’ve been ignoring.
There were two really good gigs that occurred this past week- both Valentined themed (sort of)- one at the Birdcage Cabaret...

When Heidegger Hosts a Kegger
Nice title, eh? But is it to American? I’m thinking of using it as the title of my collection being published next May by Penned in the Margins Press as part of the Generation Txt Collective. As it’s being published by a British Press, I feel like the title shouldn’t be too Americanized or no one will get it…
On that note, I started my PhD in Philosophy Monday. Scary...
What this World Needs is a Few More Rednecks...
OK, so it’s a song title that I stole from the Charlie Daniels Band, but the new set is all about this- Rednecks. Love it. I wrote a poem to open the set (complete with sweet southern accent and everything) about the etymology of the word redneck, but for some reason, it didn’t go over too well with the locals. I think probably because I made some fun of the Scottish, but what can...

Hernia Scar
So the bandages have finally fallen off, and I have a scar about two inches long (much to my dismay as the doctor promised only ‘an inch and a bit’). It’s a funny little thing because it’s just a straight cut, no marks of stitches (they are only on the inside), jagged edges (one would hope the scalpel wasn’t), or any funny business, just one wicked line, pink,...

Hernia
So in an interesting twist of events, I have been diagnosed with what is called a ‘Femoral Hernia’. I have a video of the surgery I must undergo here:
http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/femoral_hernia.html
It’s interesting and informative (thank you BUPA), and freaks me out a bit. But hopefully I’ll have a nice scar and not three stupid ones, we’ll find out,...

Shape and Poetry
So tonight I decided it would be brilliant to write a poem in the shape of a Taxi (like a car, yeah…) because what is more ‘normal’ and ‘everyday’ than a taxi? Granted, it wasn’t a London taxi, it was a New York Taxi (big and yellow), but a taxi nonetheless. So the everyday line was one I pulled from a TV show actually… ‘Rufus hails a cab’. ...
Somtimes, the most important thing to do is to write a poem. F*ck.
